North Australian Championships – Good Luck to Our Competitors!

This weekend, the North Australian Championships will be held in Mackay, kicking off on Friday with Pool Rescue at the ARC, followed by beach events at the Harbour on Saturday and Sunday.

This carnival showcases some of the best surf lifesaving talent from across Queensland. A number of our members have been training hard over the past few months in preparation for this event, and we wish all of our competitors the very best of luck!

Following North Aussies, we’ll be hosting the Branch Championships at Eimeo  on the 22 and 23 November — the first time our Club has hosted this major event! The Branch Championships are open to competitors from Under 8s right through to Masters, so there’s something for everyone.

If you’re interested in competing, please reach out to our Director of Surf Sports, Ross. With the carnival taking place right here at our beach, it’s the perfect opportunity to get involved and support our Club.

Nippers

Our Under 12 award winner is Elsie Quinn. Alecia said Elsie has worked hard each week at improving her skills and always has a smile on her face. She said that Elsie was particularly impressive when she took a board out in the bigger surf conditions a couple of weeks ago.

The U13 Nipper of the Week was Isabelle Malouf. Alecia said that she had a hard time choosing an U13 this week as she usually overlooks her daughter Isabelle and some of the other U13's by extension of. Alecia said that Flynn, Hugo, Gabby, Nina and Isabelle were all deserving recipients who work hard each week. To make it fair she decided to put all 5 names in a hat and draw a winner.

Congratulations to you all

🛟 PROFICIENCIES – IMPORTANT INFO

This season’s proficiency process looks a little different, with a strong focus on CPR-GO, which introduces significant changes to how CPR roles are defined.

👉 Before attending a practical session, you must complete your online skills maintenance. The videos explain the new CPR processes, so this step is essential.

During practical proficiency sessions, the focus will be on scenarios, with each member rotating through roles to practise the updated CPR approach. In addition, proficiencies will cover:

  • Signals

  • Radio

  • Run/Rescue

  1. Log into eTrainu (via the Hub – note this is different to Axcelerate).

  2. Complete your online skills maintenance.

  3. Register for a practical proficiency session (this step is required so we can check your online completion beforehand).

If you need help navigating the system, please reach out to your Patrol Captain or Cynthia.
