7 September 2023 - Club Update

Eimeo SLSC

This Sunday will be our second week at the beach and our final Come and Try Day. We hope the weather will be as spectacular as  last week. Uniform shop will be open from 7.30am on Sunday morning. We will have our regular BBQ afterwards and the bar will be open. Call out for any extra hands who can assist with Water Safety as a few of our key people are away this week with personal events and other sports.

FRIDAY NIGHT RAFFLE THIS WEEK!

U8's are on the Friday night raffle. We have a table put aside for U8 families to socialise at Pub night :)

RENEW YOUR MEMBERSHIP OR JOIN!

Memberships are now due. It is essential all of our members are financial for the season so that we can process proficiencies for the kids.

Our membership fees for Junior Activities remains the same as last year. If you are struggling with your Members Portal account please email and we will try and work out what may be wrong with it.

Go to: https://members.sls.com.au/ You can use your Fair Play Vouchers at Eimeo.

NEW BRONZE AND SRC Course

Cynthia will be at the Memorial Pool on Saturday morning at 8am (to about 9am) if you would like to come down and see if you can meet the swim requirements for the Surf Rescue Certificate (200m in 5min) or the Bronze (400m in 9min).

The next Bronze and Surf Rescue Certificate Course will commence this Sunday at the club at 9.30am - this is an information session and getting people access to the system. If you are not sure it is for you, come on down and we can show you what is involved.

OKTOBERFEST LAUNCHED THIS WEEK

We had the official launch of Oktoberfest this week with the Mayor Greg Williams. If you are able to volunteer please fill in the form. We will be having a meeting on Tuesday night upstairs at the Club house if you are interested in helping 7pm.

Surf Sports - Nominations for Branch Team Open

Nominations are now open for the North Barrier Youth Team for State Titles U11 to U15. There is an email that will be sent out to families in these age groups. This year's state youth titles is on the Gold Coast 21 to 24 March at Burleigh beach. EOI close on the 17 September.

Welcome to another exciting season of competing in surf sports. The Carnival dates for North Barrier Branch region (which Eimeo is part of) have been confirmed for the season and are as below:

16th & 17th September,  Magnetic Island (Alma Bay) Carnival. This is a carnival for U8 to Masters and is an excellent carnival if you are thinking about competing for the first time.

7th & 8th October, Forrest Beach Carnival U8 to Masters.

27th, 28th and 29th October, North Aussies at Mackay Harbour. U11 to Masters.

11th November, Surf Rescue Championships, Alva Beach Ayr.

2nd & 3rd December North Barrier Branch Championships, Sarina Beach. U8 to Masters.

As the first carnival on Magnetic Island is approaching fast, please think about whether your family is interested.  All children competing at this carnival will need to have done their pool, beach and competition proficiencies.

Pool proficiencies dates: Saturday 26th Aug between 3pm to 5pm and Sunday 27th August between 10am to 12pm at Pioneer Pool.

Beach and competition proficiencies: Wednesday 30th August at 4:30pm, Sunday 3rd September at 8am and 6th September at 4:30pm all at Eimeo Beach.

If you are planning on attending Magnetic Island please submit your carnival nomination forms as soon as possible so that we can complete required paperwork (this includes renewing your memberships)

Note: For Magnetic Island Carnival any proficiencies completed after these dates may not have enough time to be processed (Branch head office) and therefore make competitors eligible to compete. Additional proficiency dates will be put out for the other carnivals.

SLSQ Surf Sports Update is available here  for the forthcoming season. It has all the dates, carnivals and events that are on in Queensland. If you wish to attend an event outside of our Branch carnivals, could you please let me know as I have to advise our Branch office for insurance purposes and to get permission from the appropriate surf club DOSS if it is a carnival.

Any questions please contact myself or catch up with me on the weekend at the Pool proficiencies.

 Thanks,

Ross https://surfsports@eimeoslsc.com.au/

PROFICIENCIES

eLearning has your Bronze or Surf Rescue Certificate Proficiency open and ready to be completed. Go to your Members Portal and access. This needs to be completed prior to the Skills Component.

IRB Proficiency is open for bookings on the 17/09 in the afternoon at Mackay harbour. Please make sure you book your attendance through your eLearning so Mick knows how many people to expect.

MARINE STINGER ELEARNING

All 16+ members need to get this completed. SLSQ are expecting our members have this finished by December this year. A lot of our members have not started this course and we need to get it locked away as a priority.

Training Courses

IRB CREWIES & DRIVERS COURSE - 16 and 17 September at Mackay -  If you are interested in doing your IRB Drivers and Crewies on 16/17 September email training@eimeoslsc.com.au

Bronze and Surf Rescue Course - Without patrolling members we do not have a surf club or the ability to offer junior activities. We ask you this season to think about doing this training.  A Surf Rescue Certificate allows you to assist with water safety at nippers and carnivals.

Eimeo Surf Life Saving Club will be running a Bronze and SRC course from 10 September on Nipper Sundays. If you are interested, email training@eimeoslsc.com.au

Sarina Surf Life Saving Club is running a Bronze and SRC Course from the 19 to 23 September. We would love to see some Eimeo members on this course. This course will be run over the 5 days for bronze and 3 for SRC to allow for it to be completed in a compressed period of time. email training@eimeoslsc.com.au if you are interested in attending.

The first week of the school holidays we have the NBB Youth Camp for SRC & Bronze up at Magnetic Island. This is the best location for youth to complete their training as the program is designed to be fun, targeted and a great environment to build lasting friendships.  See below (note it is critical to register ASAP as spots are limited) - you need to register on the Jot form link below and once registered, please email training@eimeoslsc.com.au

CONGRATS!

Congratulations to all our club members who have been kicking goals in activities outside of lifesaving. Let us know about your kids successes so that we can help celebrate their success - send a photo and a brief summary to administrator@eimeoslsc.com.au
