21 August 2023 - Club Update

Eimeo SLSC

It is very exciting as this week we start our Nippers and Albatross Nippers Program at the Pioneer Pool.  We would encourage all of our Nipper families to come along and bring a friend.  From previous seasons you guys will remember that this is where we do our Pool Proficiencies for the season. The sessions will be run as normal nippers days and count towards points for the season.  No stinger suits required. We have also created a FAQ for the season.  Questions can be sent to Alecia at:  nippers@eimeoslsc.com.au

Friday night raffles - this week our Under 7 Age Group (which was last years U6) will be selling raffle tickets on Friday night at the Surf Club. If you have kids in this age group can you please email administrator@eimeoslsc.com.au so that we can organise this week.  This season each Age Group is responsible for selling raffle tickets on a Friday night. This is a great opportunity for age groups to catch up socially whilst helping the Club raise money.

Membership renewals are now open. Please start the process of renewing your membership so that we can commence detailed planning for the season. Our Patrolling members with 25 + hours (from the previous season) will continue to receive "free" membership this year in recognition for their hard work and commitment to keeping the Public safe.  Our membership fees for Junior Activities remains the same as last year. Go to: https://members.sls.com.au/ You can use your Fair Play Vouchers at Eimeo.

20th Celebration for Eimeo SLSC was a spectacular night and we appreciate the support of our community. When we started planning this event we had an idea in our heads... often the reality does not live up to expectations. The feedback for the guests has been great. This event was organised by an amazing team of Club members who did an amazing job pulling this together.

Bonnie Hancock over the weekend provided a training session for our youth and also provided an inspirational recap of her adventure around Australia. Thank you to Dave Perkins for MC and being a genuine local legend. The photos taken by Marty Strecker Photography were amazing.  The event and raffle raised $10k.  Amanda Camm is one of our Club's greatest local supporters and we were very grateful for her donation.

Marty Strecker Photography is offering high quality prints of the event. If you would like your photos printed please contact Marty at: martystreckerphotography@gmail.com - every print ordered will result in a donation to the Club.

Calendar for the Club is available here

Surf Sports Update

Welcome to another exciting season of competing in surf sports. The Carnival dates for North Barrier Branch region (which Eimeo is part of) have been confirmed for the season and are as below:

  • 16th & 17th September,  Magnetic Island (Alma Bay) Carnival. This is a carnival for U8 to Masters and is an excellent carnival if you are thinking about competing for the first time.
  • 7th & 8th October, Forrest Beach Carnival U8 to Masters.
  • 27th, 28th and 29th October, North Aussies at Mackay Harbour. U11 to Masters.
  • 11th November, Surf Rescue Championships, Alva Beach Ayr.
  • 2nd & 3rd December North Barrier Branch Championships, Sarina Beach. U8 to Masters.

As the first carnival on Magnetic Island is approaching fast, please think about whether your family is interested.  All children competing at this carnival will need to have done their pool, beach and competition proficiencies.

Pool proficiencies dates: Saturday 26th Aug between 3pm to 5pm and Sunday 27th August between 10am to 12pm at Pioneer Pool.

Beach and competition proficiencies: Wednesday 30th August at 4:30pm, Sunday 3rd September at 8am and 6th September at 4:30pm all at Eimeo Beach.

If you are planning on attending Magnetic Island please submit your carnival nomiation forms as soon as possible so that we can complete required paperwork (this includes renewing your memberships)

Note: For Magnetic Island Carnival any proficiencies completed after these dates may not have enough time to be processed (Branch head office) and therefore make competitors eligible to compete. Additional proficiency dates will be put out for the other carnivals.

SLSQ Surf Sports Update is available here for the forthcoming season. It has all the dates, carnivals and events that are on in Queensland. If you wish to attend an event outside of our Branch carnivals, could you please let me know as I have to advise our Branch office for insurance purposes and to get permission from the appropriate surf club DOSS if it is a carnival.

Any questions please contact myself or catch up with me on the weekend at the Pool proficiencies.

 Thanks,

Ross surfsports@eimeoslsc.com.au

Training Courses

IRB CREWIES & DRIVERS COURSE - 16 and 17 September at Mackay -  If you are interested in doing your IRB Drivers and Crewies on 16/17 September email training@eimeoslsc.com.au

Bronze and Surf Rescue Course - Without patrolling members we do not have a surf club or the ability to offer junior activities. We ask you this season to think about doing this training.  A Surf Rescue Certificate allows you to assist with water safety at nippers and carnivals.

Sarina Surf Life Saving Club is running a Bronze and SRC Course from the 19 to 23 September. We would love to see some Eimeo members on this course. This course will be run over the 5 days for bronze and 3 for SRC to allow for it to be completed in a compressed period of time. email training@eimeoslsc.com.au if you are interested in attending.

The first week of the school holidays we have the NBB Youth Camp for SRC & Bronze up at Magnetic Island. This is the best location for youth to complete their training as the program is designed to be fun, targeted and a great environment to build lasting friendships.  See below (note it is critical to register ASAP as spots are limited) - you need to register on the Jot form link below and once registered, please email training@eimeoslsc.com.au

See you around the Club
