Eimeo Nippers 2019/20 program commences Sunday, 8 September, with a Come & Try/Sign On Day, 9am to 12 noon.

Eimeo Nippers is the Junior Activities arm of Eimeo Surf Life Saving Club, the main aim of which is to provide a fun filled program of surf education for community surf safety and the development of future lifesavers for the club.  Nipper Sundays are the foundation from which we build our basic surf and competition skills along with awards and accreditations such as Basic Resuscitation and the Surf Rescue Certificate.  Each age group has an Age Manager with at least one assistant.  The Age Manager is responsible for the education, training and organisation of the group.

The coaches of water and beach activities provide the teaching and coaching of skills to the nippers on Sunday mornings and have overall control of the mid- week training sessions.  Water safety officers provide the mandatory and necessary safety requirements the club must provide in order to carry out the nipper Sunday mornings and midweek training sessions.

Nippers is for children from 5 years to 13 years of age and is held on Sundays 9am sharp till 11am from September till March. Please refer to our website for the Nippers Calendar of dates and other Club events. All age groups are determined by a child’s age at 30th September.

Under 6’s & 7’s are identified by their fluorescent orange (U6) and green (U7) cap. Green caps have a short activity program, finishing around 10.45am. Activities are designed for fun and surf education only; water activities are restricted to the shallows and competition is not permitted.  Every child in these age groups must be accompanied by a parent.1:1 ratio.

Under 8’s to 14’s wear the blue club cap with dolphin logo.  The Nippers are taught everything from sun and surf safety, beach sprints, flags, surf swimming, and board paddling skills and techniques all the way through to life saving skills like CPR and water rescues.  Nippers have the opportunity to compete in competitions providing they are proficient and gain many valuable awards and life skills along the way. Once Nippers complete the program they become competent active members of the Eimeo Surf Club contributing valuable and rewarding skills back to the Club and community. Fourteen year-olds and over can join our Cadet program which offers exciting opportunities for the youth within the Surf Life Saving organisation.

Sign on for Nippers occurs in August/September each year with the season running from September to March each year.

Proficiencies & Pool Assessments:

Once again, EVERYONE, (under 6 to Bronze Award holders) must complete a pool swim before anything else.  Under 8 upwards must also attend a beach proficiency day.

I have booked 2 lanes at the Pioneer Pool (heated at a lovely 27C) on the following days:

  • Saturday 7 September 2019, 1pm-3pm
  • Saturday 14 September 2019, 9am-12noon

All those wishing to compete at Forrest Beach and North Aussies carnivals will have to attend one these sessions and one of the ‘early bird’ proficiency days, so we can get their relevant age award into Surfguard in time.
